R U OK?Day

R U OK?Day reminds us that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever you spot the signs that someone you care about might be struggling.

A cuppa and a question

After a challenging few years, it is more important than ever for healthcare professionals to take care of their mental wellbeing. To provide the best possible care to patients and themselves, doctors, nurses and staff need a support network that fosters resilience, emphasises wellbeing and destigmatises seeking help.

Checking in

If it seems like something’s worrying a workmate, make sure to check in with them. You could:

  • Find a time that is convenient for them to have a chat
  • Grab a coffee to get away from distractions
  • Mention specific things that have made you concerned for them: ‘You seem less chatty than usual. How are you going?’

If they’re not ok, that's ok. Listen to them without judgement and encourage them to connect with appropriate support. A chat may not be able to ‘fix’ the problem, but it helps to know your teammates have your back.
